Question JVC Video transfer To PC Using FireWire....Problems!!

Hi,

Trying to transfer videos from my JVC Cam, GR-D70(ek), i can upload piccys using the Usb downloading of the memory card, but the videos need a firewire cable (iee1934).

so brought one off ebay, but it still refuses to connect, any ideas? i heard i needed a firewire card, but i can't see it being this hard to download simple videos

cheers for any help!!

Okay so reading between the lines. Your Camcorder can connect via your PC directly via IEE1394 (A.K.A Firewire) port. You bought the Firewire cable but your PC does not have a Firewire port?

If so then yes you do need a Firewire card that has firewire ports on it.

It has to be firewire at both ends. You need to get a cheap PCI firewire card.

This would do the job:

£5 or £2.25 for open box version

Ummm... Not seen one of those before. I'm with Lightning101 on this one. Can you post a pic or a link to where you bought this cable from?

Interesting. The article you posted dates back to 2004. Yet Maplins don't seem to have them over here.

Also pulling this from the article:
"Transferring video back to the camcorder will require Service Pack 2"

Would that imply Service pack 2 for Windows 2000 or XP?

If XP. Then does Stiver3 have a PC running XP on Service Pack 2. Also will the cable require any specific software or drivers to work with it?

Hi

Cheers for all that. I dont have USB 2.0 on my PC atm.... only on my laptop!

Maybe this is the problem.

the cable was bought cheap (£3.50 odd) but assumed it wasjust the fact the USB to USB couldnt transfer video, hence reason i bought USB to Firewire.

Jpor.. mayb you are correct... i do have xp wih sp2 but no drivers...simply plugged and played.... mayb i need drivers?

Yeh it needs SP2 for XP. You also need USB2 due to the transfer rates used by firewire, thats the problem methinks. Jpor - not sure where you can get that cable here either
