Question Audio CD to MP3?

Hi

I want to rip an audio CD to mp3 files (or wavs if I have to).

Can anyone suggest a suitable piece of freeware/shareware that could to the task?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, as he said ITunes, does more than provide a shop front for downloading stuff.

I know you asked for free/shareware. But I use Ashampoo MP3 Audio Studio. It does it all except what I-tunes can do. Basically it will rip CD's to Mp3 and even normalize the volumes. So all your CD rips have the same volume. I think you can get a 30 day trial Here

Windows Media Player 10 does an excellent job of this with no need for any extra applications.

Good grief, so it does!! I just upgraded to version 10 the other day, and sure enough it now has a 'rip' function.

Thanks for the tip.

Get a copy of this. Its fast and more importantly its free.

Typically it will rip a cd on my machine in less than 10 minutes.

You're welcome
In the options you can choose the quality and also the format (mp3, wma) as well.
I used to use cDex but WMP10 does the job just fine now as it rips it to your My Music folder as standard and provides the album art.

last nights 'gadget show' did a feature on converting your cassette tapes to MP3 - they recommended a piece of freeware called 'audacity'

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

the 'how to do it' guide is here --
