If you're using outlook for email, then you can set up an automated response. Is this what you are after ?

otherwise if its for the benefit of people you work with then stick a large piece of paper or a post it note on your screen saying "out of office"

I went on internet and saw how to do it, but it looks like my outlook won't be able to do it, EG message rules, I click on new on the right hand side but the second group of boxes called actions for your rule I dont get what I should get I get delete and colour etc nothing that I need.

So is this it no auto for me?

If you cannot do it on your PC (plus I guess you need to leave PC on) try checking with you ISP. BT Yahoo has a "Holiday" message feature in the options as do many others.
