I have a Dell X5 and if i press the on/ off button gently it switches off the backlight, if i press and hold the button for a second or longer it switches it off properly.
Do you have a reciever for the GPS? are you trying to get a signal indoors - you really need to be outside or next to a window to get a proper signal 9you may be in a poor reception area) - also if you look into your settings make sure the GPS function box is ticked (it unchecks itself if you disconect the reciever)

It can take up to 40 minutes to get a satellite fix the first time. To check for activity (that the receiver is working) tap "Change preferences" tap to prefernce page 4of 6. Tap "show GPS satus". If the black and yellow icon, top right is moving and you have some dots showing on the compass, then be patient. If you have the warning "no GPS device", then it is a connection thing and you need to reconfigure (on the same screen)

the gps reciever also has a small capacator that must be charged, as previously said, it can take upto 40 mins to hit a connection.

i would guess your settigns are..

and there will be accessed via the gps configure menu

do this..

tomtom...running

change preferances

show gps status

configure

try other cable NMEA gps

select

gps baud rate MUST be 4800

done

then you get some options

try serial cable on com1: (press to highlight)

then press done..

it will configure the gps unit.

if the utc counter starts turning, its found the gps reciever.

if little wheel not spinning go back and change the setting to com2 or usb or the other s. you must hit done after each time you change to initialise the unit.

if anon of these work, you need to back to the beginning and try another main gps unit setting.

it may be the tt5 gps mouse.

generally though, its other nmea gps

i used to get mine initiallised and lock it in the car for a short while, or leave it on the table in the garden..

once locked on, it will pull other sats in quite quickly..

mine now takes approx 60 secs to aquire its fix in the car ...
