Laptop battery problem?
On my laptop, the red battery light is on indicating that the machine is running on the battery, however it isn't.
The laptop is running on mains power and when I go into Control Panel, Power Options, this confirms that my current power source is AC, and that I apparently have 98% battery power remaining.
However, if I pull the AC lead out of the back of the laptop, the unit cuts off immediately and the battery does not keep it on
Also, the battery is internal I think, unlike my last laptop as I can't see a removeable section......
Any ideas?

Its probably about 2 years old Chris, but the battery isn't a removeable slide type like others..... Does it need to go into a shop or would I be able to do it myself?

Almost every laptop I have come across has had a removable battery. Compaq, IBM, HP, Dell, etc.....
As Chris said, what make/model laptop is it ?
It will probably be removable but you might need to take a little of the outer case off.

Its a Packard Bell Easynote F7305
In the time that I have owned it, I don't think it has ever been run on batteries, except on one or two occassions where the power lead has come loose and I've noticed the battery icon in the system tray.
The base has a large section of the casing, about 2/3 the size of the base with screws holing it in.... could this be where I get access to the battery?
Where is the best/cheapest place to source spares?
