Default How to increase the range/signal strength from a BT wireless rounter

Anyone know?

I have a BT voyager 2091 wireless router up stairs in the spare room!

The signal all around the house is quite good apart from the living room!

I s there a wayto boost the range or strength of the signal!

I know of repeaters and so forth! i was just wondering if there was away without forking more dosh! Using the software or a program!

cheers Adam

Have you tried a different channel on the router. Usually 6 is a good one to try. Although make a note on what it was on before you changed it, as it may upset the signal on the other devices.

Make sure the router is not near any large metal objects (and no metal in the path to your target pc)

I use netstumbler to ensure no other wireless signals are around and interfering.

Normally pick channel 1 or 7

Hello

You can buy a (cheap) external antenna if your router has a detachable aerial.

I have two of these airlink ones (and paid just £3 each in a sale!):

log into the router through your web browser probaboly at something like

192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 - it might ask you for a username/password - this would probably be admin/admin i think. there would be a setting for the channel in the wifi setup page.
