Personally I do the last one (but use xp sp2 firewall/zone alarm slowed my pc up too much). I backup regularly so if I lose everything I can do a re-install and restore. It's easy and free. I've NEVER had my computer **** up because of a virus. I've run AVG for the last 2 years. It updates most days as well.

If you have some business critical need for you system to be up all the time etc. then the others may be a better bet. The Kapersky one gets good reviews I think.

You get what you pay for. I wouldn't recommend AVg to anyone. I've seen too many screwed up / infected systems that have it installed.

McAfee is a pretty good option. Their spam killer is a load of rubbish, but the antivirus is actually very good.

I wouldn't go near McAfee Home version - bloatware city. Consider NOD32 + Zonealarm.
