Dumb-*** Windows XP question
Morning all
How do I tell which version of XP Pro I'm running? I've just installed a USB 2.0 card which will only run on SP1 or later and I thought I was running SP2.
Thanks
Kav

Thanks chaps
Clicking on 'My Computer' just shows 'Windows XP Pro Version 2002'
Running WINVER shows ' Version 5.1 (Build 2006.xpclnt_qfe.040918-1927)
Any idea how to find out which service pack (if any) is installed?
Cheers
Kav

...so here's the next dilemma.
I tried downloading SP2 and Microsoft takes you through a Windows authenticity check. My version of XP failed because it was bought 'under a volume licence agreement and the key can't be verified' or something like that.
What's the deal behind getting this copy of Windows sorted. I bought the PC with it already installed.
Cheers

If the Windows copy is genuine then contact microsoft and explain the problem.
I recently had to call M$ to validte my genuine XP when I re-installed. Seems people steal big vendors keys to install windows. My HP Laptop came with a Windows restore disc which installed but wouldn't activate until I called m$.
If your copy of XP isn't genuine, then you have 3 choices....
a) Puchase a genuine copy (OEM version will do)
b) There is software / Internet explorer patches out there that perform certain trixies to let you download SP2
c) Find a mate who can download SP2 for you
Depends whether you want a legal version or not!

You can download SP 2 here without the Microsoft system checks:

Either way, I strongly recommend installing SP2 asap
