Angry Tom Tom on Ipaq PDA - GPS device takes AGES to receive a signal?

Anyone else running Tom Tom on their Ipaq/PDA?

I'm having a big problem with my GPS bluetooth unit finding a sat. signal (PDA links to the GPS unit fine (Bluetooth))

I can leave it for over 30mins and still no signal. Re-powering it SOMETIMES sorts this, but this is proving to be a real pain in the ****.

Anyone else have problems, give any tips or should I return this to as a faulty unit?

My Ipaq used to be a little slow[5 mins when left over night] with bluetooth so I bought a CF Card Version no problems at all then

New PDA [SPVM5000] less than 30 seconds

Yep, I get this problem too, but not always.

I have a palm with the Tomtom kit (cradle and wired tomtom GPS receiver).

Message I get is 'No valid GPS device' but I have green flashing light on the GPS so it's just not registering the signal.

At the same location probably 50-50 likelihood of it working.

Occasionally doing a reset of the Palm sorts it... sometimes it doesnt

I did a test using my palm in a friend's car at the same location. They have a cheap cradle with wired GPS and it worked immediately!! Tried it straight away in mine and flashing green light but same old message - no GPS found!

So is there an intermittent prob with cradle/connection??? I dunno... but as you say it is a real pain in the @rse

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

"No Valid GPS Device" means that the PDA cant comm wih the GPS device (according to the Tom Tom guide).

My PDA sees the GPS device almost instantly, so that sides fine, its just the GPS device comm with the satellites that I struggle with ("No Valid GPS Signla being received")

Unhappy

I usually get this problem if I fire up the system at a different location to where it was last shut down - TomTom 5 on a Tungsten T3 with a Holux GR230 BT receiver.

Very annoying.

Ditto for me (Acer N30 with TT5 Bluetooth Kit). I sometimes find that powering the receiver off/on fixes it fairly rapidly. If not, then a soft reset on the PDA does the trick

Hi Neil

The really annoying thing is that the cold start time they quote in the blurb is 45 seconds. So regardless of where you switch the receiver back on (providing it's got line of sight on 4 satellites on mine), it should lock on within that time.
