Best wireless router / modem ??
After much heartache with a Motorola and now a Mentor Wireless g router , I need a secure reliable router , I will hard wire it to my desktop via a Ethernet cable , but my daughter needs to hook up to the internet connection via her laptop (wireless) I would also like to set up a small network between laptop and desktop and be able to transfer files between PCs , All of which for one reason or another I haven't been able to do with the previous router's , and I need to be able to secure the network without too much fuss .
So I have decided to cut my loss's and start again.
The one router that's caught my eye is the Netgear DG 834 , would this fit my needs ?? Its about in the price range I was looking at and gets very good reviews, any others that I should be looking at ??
Thanks

I'm using a netgear wireless router at home at the moment, and it works a treat. Easy to setup, running wireless between my PC and the router, also use it to connect my PSP to the network.
Having played around with a USRobotics router last week at my brother-in-laws, I'd say the netgear is a damn sight easier to install, the software on the router is straight forward and easy to understand, the USR one was a nightmare to fix, with loads of second guessing at what was needed.
Speed wise, its as you would expect for a 108mbs setup, I've certainly got no complaints, and the hardware is well built.

Is your Linksys the WAG54G? If so, is it v1 or v2 hardware? The v1 hardware had a problem with overheating that would cause it to drop the ISP connection. I've had mine just over a year and it has been getting worse and worse, but Linksys have agreed to replace it with a v2 hardware version under warranty.
I stopped using the Linksys a while ago and bought a Buffalotech AirStation G54 - which is much more reliable. I'll be selling the v2 WAG54G on eBay when it arrives.

Well I've just bought a Netgear DG 834 off Ebay for £45.00 , I couldn't justify £150.00 for the Draytek
Anyway I ll see how I go on with the Netgear , just want a reliable secure network , nothing fancy or super fast and it cant be any worse than the previous 2 routers
thanks for the help

From memory (my V1 got replaced by a v2 but that didn't last a week before I unplugged and it's not been on since)...
The V1 has three LEDs on RHS of the front (ADSL, Act and Session). The V2 drops one of those.
Also, when in the web management the version number might be shown in the top RH corner of the screen.
