Default Is it possible to re-install elements of OSx (Tiger)

My Mac is up-to-date with the latest OS update, however, something I only noticed this morning.

Went to click on I-Movie (in the Dock).......... and it's not there!!!!

Did a "Find" - no such file!!!!

Anybody got any idea what's happened?

Moreso, when I use my OS disk, can I install components of OSX?

gotta start looking around for what should be installed now, and isn't!!!

Hi Dan

When you set these machines up did you choose a clean install? If you did then its likely that you didn't install iMovie, iPhoto or iDVD as they are not included in the install DVD and they are only on the iLife install DVD.

If you are talking about the Mac mini's then they have a separate install DVD for the iLife suite which you can use then to install your missing components.

To install components off an OSX disk on their own you just need to pop the Tiger disk in, restart from it and choose install OSX.

The first screen has 2 buttons at the bottom, "Options" or "Upgrade". You want to choose "Upgrade" at this point (unless you want to make any changes to the type of install such as "archive and install". The next screen will have another 2, "Customize" and "Install". Here you want to choose "Customize" and this will allow you to reinstall the missing components.

Cheers
Andy

why the ? Are you implying I've got dodgy software? <bullets ready to fire>

As far as I'm concerned, under Panther, I had all the I-life options as standard. When I've installed Tiger, they vanish, and Aplle decide to charge people for something that was standard before :

That does confuse me - however, I'm going to look at my Tiger install discs now

From what I can remember, I've done clean installs on 2 G4s with Tiger
That explains why I've lost the I-Life content.

So, I see I've got two options :-

1. Re-install the original Panther Licenses (on both G4s) and then upgrade using the Tiger DVDs, thus keeping the original I-movie/photo/DVD stuff

2. Leave the installations as they are, and install off one of my many Mac-Mini installation disk sets (is this possible - can't try it until I get to work in the morning!)

Dan

PS For any doubters, I've got about 25 Macs (G5 dps and Mac Minis) at work (all individual licenses! ) and 3 Macs (G4 DP, Mac Mini & Powerbook) at home (again, with individual licenses)

Just tried it now, but had a thought - knowing Apple, the bundled software is MacMini-native....

And what a suprise, it is

So, went back to Panther....... only lets me archive and install a new version of Panther

I'm certainly not paying Ł50 for something I already owned

Looks like this weekend (during the "snow") I'll be backing my Mac up, flushing, and re-installing from Panther upwards

B0llocks

Did the mac mini's come with any coupons? I seem to recall my ibook did, I think the idea is that you can use these to get a free/cheap upgrade to the latest version of iLife.

I had 10.4 and 10.3 on my partitioned disk and just copied iPhoto straight across, does this not work for you? can't you just grab what you need from one of the other macs?
