Default Getting FreeView on your PC

Mate has a new PC with TV decoder card along with S-Video IN on the VGA card.

He's tried plugging the simple little antenna that came with the TV card in and gets crap reception

Question - if he buys a Freeview box can he get the pciture on his PC. Would he get it in via the RF IN on the TV card or the S-Video IN on the video card?

Yes, he should be able to get the picture on the PC, no problem.

Not having one, I believe the freeview boxes would use the lowest common denominator when it comes to hooking up to a TV. This means they should output RF which is pretty easy to use for most TVs these days. (I say most as some plasmas/tfts these days need a decoder box to use analogue signals)

If you need to check it out before you buy, take a trip to comet/curry's and have a butchers at one on display.

You need a freeview box with an RF modulator. The cheaper ones don't have them. Ask before you buy. You can get PC cards that are digital only for about £50 they do need a good aerial connection. You can also buy a "TV Card" about the size of a memory stick, connects via USB port, looks like a memory stick too, also digital and needs a good aerial. Costs about 50 quid too.

Why not go for one of these?

If he's already got a TV card he needs to hook up a decent aerial. He would have to do the same with a freeview box.

I've got a Compro DBT-300 TV card with an aerial in the loft and the picture is perfect.
