Default Who has 1mb DSL from Pipex

What speed does yours connect at? Mine says 2.2mb but I download at 140kb/s which is slightly more than 1mbit (128kb/s normally minus overheads).

What do the rest of you get?

Cheers,
Simon.

Simon, a few of our contracts are on the pipex 1MBit ADSL, but they have all just recently, ie last week or two, been upgraded free of charge to 2Mbit, so if I were you, I would check and see if you get the upgrade too.

Means BT have upgraded your exchange. Most people on 1 Meg now have 2 Meg. SO should the question be

Who has 2mb DSL from Pipex

Speedtests say I can download at 211.3 KB/sec but I've only seen 140.

It was done because BT wholesale carried out the upgrade.

Downstream 907 Kbps (113.4 KB/sec)
Upstream 241 Kbps (30.1 KB/sec)

Although i'm just waiting for them to upgrade me now, should be done by month end.

Sorry forgot to say Im on 512k that has recently been upgraded to 1mb. Seems like most who got the upgrade connect at 2.2mb weird.

Exactly the same as me!

I was also upgraded to 1mb and it connects at 2.2!

My understanding is that Pipex themselves throttle it back to 1mb, BT connect it at 2.2mb and Pipex set it at what speed you should be running at. Then if you upgarde from 1mb to 2mb then Pipex can upgrade you without having to pay BT again. That's what I was told anyway.

In the same boat as you bravo...got an email from Pipex in March saying I'd be upgraded 'soon' and I'm still waiting. They told me on the phone that it would be by the end of July. Used to think there was no reason to move away from them but now I'm starting to think they're overpriced and unreliable so am looking around.

the 2.2mb must be the speed of the line at the exchange.

At the modem it says 2.2 but ive 1mb line. I guess that also means we've all got a good enough line to be able to get 2mb.

as stated above you connect at 2mb, your isp then throttles your speed. you ARE connected to a 2mb DSLAM.

I'm on the 1Meg package (upgraded from 512) - just done a speed test (ADSLguide) and was disappointed to see a download rate of between 550 and 600 KBps. And an upload of 246Kbps. Should I be disappointed or is this right?

just to warn you, ive been informed that infact their CS are just as cr@p & infact they are now putting on limits mainly throttling p2p. They are changing this now so i would get them to confirm that in triplicate

i will double check. some guys here have premiere & are abit pissed off. I cant image if the changes wont affect them why they would be annoyed if p2p was still ok with them

Check their discussion forums, theres stuff about it there.

PlusNet have confirmed that they have introduced traffic shaping on their Plus and Premier products. The Premier shaping is designed to be less extreme than that applied to Plus. See PN's comments on the ADSL Guide forum...

It appears that some Premier customers had their traffic shaping badly implemented, so the performance (esp. P2P) hit was much more severe than should have been. Hence there was a bigger outcry than should have been. I moved from a Zen 512kbps to PN's 'Premier up to 2Mbps' service earlier this week. I've only had a few days with the new service, but so far it's performed superbly. No complaints so far.

I've got no experience of Pipex, apart from their woeful inability to sell me a wireless connection (pre-extended reach ADSL). Their Customer Services folks couldn't even return phone calls. That did put me off considering them for my new ADSL service.

im quite happy with pipex.
Although i think in the last month or so they introduced caps, whereas previously they were unlimited.

Doubt this wil affect most people unless you go mad on p2p
