At a complete loss (computer failure)
Hello
As I was suffering random reboots, I decided that I should upgrade my power supply to 400W. So I dutifully bought a new one and installed it.
Now, nothing boots! If I boot in safe mode it gets to c:\...\mup.sys and then hangs. If I put the old power supply back the same thing happens.
I have: Removed all the PCI cards, swapped the graphics card, reseated and tested the memory, removed all hard drives, tried to boot from my Windows CD and "R"epair (hangs), re-install windows on another hard drive (hangs while trying to load from CD).
Help!!
Thanks,
Steve

I have tried another ram stick, and it still hangs on mup.sys.
Frustrating!

When did you replace the RAM, before or after the XP re-install?

Hello
Okay, I think my motherboard is broken (annoying as it's only 6 months old, but bought in America so no guarantee). If I disable the L2 cache from the bios settings, then everything boots okay (albeit incredibly slowly).
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Steve

The L2 cache is normally found on the CPU.

Hello
I have reset and then re-flashed my bios. And it's definately the "L2 Cache" setting. If I enable it, the nothing works. Disable it, everything is good.
So, the question now (based on your response above) is that the motherboard or the processor at fault?
Thanks for your help.

The only way to find out I'm afraid is to try what MJW suggests.
As an after thought. Your CPU settingts in the BIOS correspond with the type of CPU you have? In other words when you boot up it displays the correct CPU credentials?
