recovering a file from a dvd-r
i have a .cab file on a dvd-r, but i keep getting crc errors when i read it, the file is 600mb, but its only the last 20-30mb that appears to have the crc.
Does anyone know of any tools that will help me recover the file ?
Also any tools that might be able repair the .cab file
Thanks

the crc "cyclic redundancy check" means that the data that has been written has been corrupted more probably at the time of burning, but more often its due to a scratched or dirty dvd. First check the dvd and make sure the recording surface is clean, if not then give it a clean and try it again. If its scratched then depending on how bad it is, a polish with auto glym sometimes does the job lol.
There is no software available or is there any method of repairing the .cab file as the dvd reader wont read the complete file, so try the above and see how you get on.

If you have CRC errors, i'm guessing tthe film originated from an FTP download.
When a film is downloaded form an FTP source, it comes in 14MB packets that un-rar into a disc image.
When it was unpacked, the person unpacking it chose to ignore any CRC error rather than re-download the corrupt rar file
In short, there is nothing you can now do to repair the corrupt file.
