Word file overwritten

Word file overwritten
If 'hypothetically' a 'friend of a friend' accidentally deleted 20 pages of a word(xp) file, then immediately saved it, with no backup running - could he recover the text?
Ok...ok...I just cant believe I managed to do this!
HELP!

I'm fairly sure you can't, a friend overwrote an excel file in the same way and I couldn't help her.
I tried google and a few excel forums, but no luck.

It may be possible if 'allow fast saves' option is ticked; what this does is just save the changes to text, so it 'may' just have a placeholder to tell it the text is deleted.
Copy the file somewhere, change the '.doc' extension to '.txt' and open in wordpad; it may be there (worth a try, anyway).
