GT4 or PGR2?
So....which is best?
Xbox has cars to make a grown man weep, and undoubtedly the best grahics. The kudos idea is great, albeit occasionally flawed, and Xbox Live racing experience is only bettered by Toca Race Driver. Oh and not forgetting those amazing recreations of real cities and tracks.
But then GT *is* the daddy. Bewildering list of cars, and attention to detail. Incredible handling model that really adapts according to the mods you make and the way you approach the road, and awesome steering wheel support.
So which is it? And lets not make this a ps2 v xbox argument

No competition. I love Xbox live as much as anyone (haven't seen you on for a while Ed?) which made PGR, but in terms of handling, characteristics, choice of car and sheer entertainment.... GT4 blows PGR out of the water!
However, without an online mode I am not sure it will last as long as PGR has, i've been on it for over a year now and there are a lot of people who play almost nothing else on xbox live.

Twiggy, yeah I've been somewhat busy with the business to say the least!!
Have to say PGR is best for a quick pick up and play, but the realism of the gt4 handling model is amazing.
Anyway, less talk and more play!!!

Best driving simulation is F355 for the dreamcast. AI is great, steering, braking and throttle amazing. Just a shame there was little to do on the game.
Kam- Yes i have GT4 and PGR2 etc.

Ed, glad to hear it is going well mate! Best of luck with it for the future.
Don't think PGR is that bad though Paul, you do have to break more than once in some of the decent cars, although granted in the scooby that is not the case!!

The AI in GT4 is shocking, it's like they don't even know you're on the track!
Least the AI cars in PGR2 try to overtake rather than just drive thru you!

I've not played GT4, but have owned the previous encarnations of it, so I know what it's like. If PGR had the ability to modify your car in the way that GT4 does then I'd probably go with PGR. I play it a fair bit, mainly online and it is rather good.
I'm waiting for Forza to come on on XBOX as that seems to be GT for XBOX, of course PGR3 (if there is/will be one) could take the crown, who knows.
Much as I like the GT series, I am not sure I'll purchase a PS2 over here just for that one game. I'm not overly keen on the PS online gaming system and tend to prefer xbox live's system.

Markus, trust me when I say mate... GT4 is nothing like the GT3 or previous GT engines at all mate. The physics have had a complete re-model and PGR can't hold a candle to it in terms of realism believe me!! The online function is the heart and soul of PGR in every way, shape and form and it is the lack of this feature on GT that keeps PGR in the same league. Even some of the guys from xbox live who are stupidly fast on PGR are saying that GT4 is more challenging to the driver.
As for Forza, I'm not sure. I think it has potential but at this stage, from the demo I have played and the stuff I have read it has some major flaws! The physics is basically good, but the control system is completely unreasonable and extremely difficult to use. The AI is nothing short of shocking! Last of all, they are having problems trying to implement all of the online features that they wanted. That is not to say that PGR3 won't be better, but it looks like that will be an xbox 2 release and not for the current model.
At the end of the day it is down to personal preference and what you look for in a game. If you like realism, then TOCA2, Richard Burns or GT4 are the way to go. If you like more arcadey racing then Gotham is definitely the way to go.

EVO liked it
and they even let Meaden spend a whole day trying to beat (using GT4) Bellof's real life lap time on the 'ring!!
(which he did!)
under 6 mins IIRC !!!
They even said it behaved just like the 'ring for real...
good enough endorsement for me.
bought it tonight

I have both PS2 and Xbox and like both game series for differant reasons. GT is as real as your going to get in my opinion and theres alot to keep you busy. PGR on the other hand is undoubtedly a classic arcade style car game.
I can only play PGR for an hour or so though, whereas ive played GT for 15hrs none stop (no kidding!). So GT wins it for me!
