Exclamation More to the XBox power cord replacement than meets the eye? (Big Pics)

From Xbox-Scene . . .

>> North American Xbox owners have already began to recieve their replacement power cords. These new cords are on the bulky side, and plastered with warning messages and instructions which appear to be made for the kind of person who would stick a fork inside a socket.

However, there appears to be some discussion as to the true intention of Microsoft. G0t M4xx 21 explains his theory:

The real problem is the Foxlink power supply. There have been numerous reports of "loose power connectors" in xboxes, and the cause of this is that the solder joints on the PSU have actually broken where the connector mounts to the board, which can result in the xbox not powering on, or possibly even sparks, smoke, and fire.
So, instead of taking the costly duty of recalling all older xboxes, what do they do? They give you a power cord with this huge GFI thing. This in no way will solve the problem, it is merely a bandaid. So, when your PSU sparks and shorts out, it just trips a switch instead of catching fire, but your xbox still doesn't work.

what do you expect from Microshaft

No wonder so many people treat the brand with the contempt it deserves, and get the products chipped/hacked/pirated......

What an awful bodge

Got my replacement cord this morning (well, yesterday, thanks postie ). Its similar to the above but has the trip unit mid-way on the cable. It has a round reset button and a red test button plus a small LED below them (much nicer than the US one above ). Looks like MS has indeed taken the 'easy' route on this one.

I wouldn't mind, but why not just come out with it if there is a real internal problem I'm going to check my own PSU solder points anyway.

Roll on November and Xbox 2

Probably not their policy to report 'faults' just like its never been their policy to report 'bugs' in their software, probably the only software company on the planet to get away with this bollox, just admit this sort of $hit guys, believe it or not people would revere them more for their honesty instead of having legions of saddo's who live to destroy their software!

I have three Xboxs and haven't heard anything about this??

What do you need to do to get a replacement?? This must be costing MS a fortune to replace all the leads

Microsoft will only inform you if they know who you are. (i.e. if you have registered with Microsoft, or signed up for a Live account). I've had an email and a letter through the post!!

However, even if they don't know who you are, you can visit the microsoft website, enter your xbox serial number etc, and just order one (assuming it was manufactured before 23rd Oct 2003).

Looks like this prob could have surfaced from the Xbox modders who treat the box like an all singing and dancing PC, MP3 player, vid player etc, and who leave it on forever like some cheapo ten bob server. Hence MS telling numpties to switch the damn thing off once in a while

Does using the phrase ten bob make me look old?

btw I'm prob talking complete sheeite

Microsoft need to make their mind up whether or not I need a lead...

First they email me and tell me about it.

Then they write to me to tell me that I'm affected.

I pull xbox out from under the TV, and the manufacturing date indicates that i should have a new lead.

So I put the details into the xbox interweb, and that tells me I don't need one.

Going to have to call them and get a definitive answer i guess.

What a load of xbollox!

John.

Exactly the same here, and the cord even sparked when I plugged it back in after checking the serial number

Nasty! Talk about a bulky replacement.

Have to admit that the XBOX is the only MS product I don't bemoan, as, touch wood, I've never had a problem with mine.

Does not suprise me in the least that they don't fix the actual fault, rather push out a 'band aid', bad press would not be good, then again, get Steve Balmer to make the annoucement, he'll probably do some whooping around and make it an enjoyable thing lol.

Thankfully I don't need a replacement, not sure I'd want one of the bulky US cables.

I've got 2 X-boxes. so ordered 2 leads, one is the super-duper one with the circuit breaker, the other is a normal lead. No indication which is for which X-box. I also got the European plug on the 'posh' lead.

Glad to see this is being handled responsibly

I got my euro-lead one today aswell!

Can't I just cut the plug off and put a UK one on? I really can't be asked with chasing up another

Who do you call/email for a replacement replacement lead?
