newest one with the 108mbps speed.
Basic question is, is the security on this as good an an internet security suite (Zone alarm Pro, Mcafee, Norton Internet security) etc when set up properly. I understand the basics of ports, IP's etc.
Netgear say software firewalls with this aren't needed, anyone else use one?

yes i use one
set up your cards mac addy and do it as a secure port to port connection
one of my ****** neighbours hasnt done this and his router is knocking mine off every 10 mins
i am having a word with him tonight!!!!!!!!

Actually that router tends to drop the connection like that anyway.

It's as secure as any router, which means as secure as you can make it. It supports WPA, so use that rather than WEP. Turn off SSID broadcast etc - you know the drill.

Change the channel in the config page of your router. Your microwave, DECT phone, other people's base stations can all cause dropouts.

You can only do that in WEP: if you want the more secure WPA then you are set with channel 6.

Make sure the various aerials are away from metal objects, pipes etc. Try moving the aerials around a bit. Try the beta firmware revision on the Netgear site.

No, that's for the DG834G; this is the GT - the 108Mbps version. Latest firmware is 1.01.08 IIRC.

Touch wood, but my connection problems seem to have gone away (that's probably done it though...) after I a) moved the router much further from the one computer it's hard-wired to, and b) tilted the aerial back a bit. The router is downstairs and three wireless rigs are upstairs, almost directly above it.
