Simple Q.does Win 98SE include usb driver software?

Default Simple Q.does Win 98SE include usb driver software?

The reason i ask is i've just bought a cheap s/hand laptop IBM 600X with win 98SE yet i cant get my ntl broadband to work.It keeps saying search for software for USB Modem?

Also my lexmar jump drive didnt work until i installed a driver(it was plug and play on my desktop)

Simple Answer: No

It does support usb but it's not got a plug and play usb driver like WinXP (for Flash disk etc)

However, the unofficial service pack for Win98 does have a basic driver in

my old PC with win98SE did support my usb modem, digital camera and printer fine.

I've got nothing to lose by installing the service pack?

Your NTL modem should come with 98se drivers on a CD? or from their website?

Pretty sure 98SE had USB support. In fact I thought the latter 95 had USB support....?

95 didnt have usb support until OSR2 for it came out, which was pretty useless anyway. 98 was the 1st to have some USB support. 98se was suppose to improve matters but never quite cut it either.

Like I said, it Win98 does support USB. As did the later version of Win95.

But it's not like WinXP - under Win98 you need a USB driver for most items (though they should come with it)

You have nothing to lose by installing the service pack. Just remember it's unofficial, and back up all critical documents before installing it - advice i would give before ANY system patch.

I've installed the Service pack on 100's of systems without ill effect in 99% of cases. In the 1% of cases there's been a problem, I uninstalled it.
