Default Getting a PC Built - Is this Price any good?

My local Computer shop have put a price together for the following PC:
- 512 RAM
- DVD Re-Writer 16x
- 80 Gb Hard Drive ST
- GFX5200 128 Mb Graphics Card
- 17" TFT Monitor
- Keyboard and Mouse
- Asus Mother board

Prices are as follows, depending on Processor (by the way, no O/S included as I already have XP Pro)

XP 3000+ = £578
Athlon 64 3000+ = £630
Athlon 64 3200+ = £649
Athlon 64 3400+ = £679

Are these prices any good?

If you were to build that computer yourself I am sure you could save £100 - £150 if you bought the components from somewhere like Dabs or Ebuyer.

Also beware that the graphics card they are including is rubbish if you want to play games.

Build it yourself, it's not difficult and you will save some money.

you can get a 300Gb h/d now for £117.50 so an 80Gb one must only cost ~£30-40?

as said you'd save yourself £100 building it yourself but if you dont know where to start its a reasonable spec and to pay £100 labour its not that bad really.

Errr have a look at Dell online for prices, they will beat anything you've listed above I should think and you get a nice years warranty out of the deal.

That Dell spec won't be great for games - the Radeon X300 video card isn't exactly a powerhouse.

FX5200 cards are £30 budget models, as is the X300 (IMHO).

Sulli - think all the above equals NO!

You should be able to get a much better set-up for 600 quid.

Excellent price. I tend to go for higher spec sound systems (or at least a sound system) and better quality components though.

Check the spec on Dell machines VERY carefully they still do the old trick of selling machines without AGP slots.

As regards that spec, I work in a computer shop, and I've found, while ASUS are an excellent board, they tend to be a bit fragile compared to other makes of boards.

Oh, and a couple of friends had some trouble with eBuyer, I've heard good things about them from some people and bad from others.

http://www.scan.co.uk aren't bad prices, and their service has always been excellent, even returns.
