Default Getting a new Mac - what software ?

Hello

A mate of mine is buying an iMac and asked me about software for it.

I dont know much about MacOS, so do the following things come as standard with it ?

DVD/CD burning software
Firewall/AV software
"Office"-type software (I know you can get MS Office or even use Openoffice)
Video editing software (like Ulead Studio on Windows)

He is going to get broadband too so anyone recommend a good 512k supplier with no download limits ?

Pretty much all of that will be included. The Mac OS does have a firewall built in. iMovie is you basic video edidting software and is very good but he may want to upgrade to Final Cut or Final Cut Express to do more sophisticated stuff. Again this is made by Apple also. Re the office programme, most Macs ship with AppleWorks whcih is quite good and can open most common file formats such as word, excel and filemaker files if memeory serves me correctly.

The only thin he may need to look at is the AV side of things, that said viruses for Mac OSX are very few and far between but its stil wise to take the necessary precautions.

If you need help just ask as I help manage MacWarehouse.
