Default TFT Monitor Recommendations

I have a 19" IIyama Visionmaster Pro 450 CRT which is mint picture wise and lasted me 4 years so far with only a few niggles (which IIyama sorted by swapping for a new one next day - well impressed with service).

However need smaller footprint on desk so am thinking TFT. Would prefer a 19". What should I be looking for bearing in mind I use PC for playing games (CS: Source at the mo). Any recommendations? Are IIyama as good in the TFT sector?

Thanks,
Simon.

Iiyama make very good TFT (imho). However they are a tad pricey. You need a 16ms response or lower for gaming. Acer do a very nice 19in on ebuyer.

I'm in a similar position.
I have an aging 17 " IIyama vision master Pro, which I would like to change for a TFT. I've been holding off, as I also have a 15" IIyama TFT which is nowhere near as sharp as the Pro. Having said that I've havn't seen a TFT yet that is.

The new Dell 20" is a very nice monitor. No idea how much though, that and the new range from Apple which are just about the best around.

I've got a couple of the Dells, last one was under £600.

Very good monitor with fast response time, 1600x1200.

Hmm this doesnt sound bad at all from Overclockers:

The Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ has an industry leading ultra-fast 8ms response time making it perfect for blur-free video and gaming. With it's 700:1 contrast ratio and excellent viewing angle their is no other TFT/LCD that can match the quality and performance of Hyundai's latest L90D+ LCD Monitor.

- 8ms Response Time
- 0.294mm of Pixels Pitch
- 700:1 Contrast Ratio
- 300 CDm² Brightness
- 150°/ 135° (h./v.) Viewing Angles
- frequency range 31 to 80kHz horizontal and 56 to 75Hz vertically
- Automatic Picture Synchronisation
- 1280 x 1024 with 60Hz recommended resolution
- 16.7 million colors display
- Dual inputs: D-Sub and DVI-D signal input
- DVI cable included
- integrated loudspeaker (2ch x 2 Watts RMS)
- headphone connection
- TCO 03
- Kensington ready
- Integrated power pack (Saving more desk space)
- 3 years on-site warranty

Note - Estimated Due Date for arrival is early December 2004.

Price: £349.95 (£411.19 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Anyone got any experience re: Hyundai monitors? Overclockers dont tend to sell ****e and 8ms sounds very fast compared to IIyama offerings that cost £600+

Simon.

Simon certainly looks good, no personal experience of Hyundai stuff.

This one also looks nice from Overclockers:
Viewsonic VX912B X Series 19" LCD Monitor - Black (MO-014-VS)

I'm really picky about monitors, not sure I could buy one without seeing the picture though.

Give us a review if you get it.

I'm a reseller, so I have experience of seeing monitors in the flesh. My own screen is a Iiyama 17" Vision Master Pro CRT, still great quality. I've also installed some 19" Iiyama Pro CRTs which look fantastic, although they can blow up on occasion...! I have some Iiyama TFTs in the office, but I'm not impressed. The new Fujitsu Siemens TFTs are very good for the office, also some good deals on them, Sony TFTs are also very good. If I was replacing right now, I'd go for either a Fujitsu Siemens P range, or a Sony X range. Try to use the digital input. On the cheaper TFT stuff, Viewsonic & Acer are ok.

We'll have a very good deal on a decetn spec ViewSonic 19" TFT possibly tomorrow. I think it was going to go out at about £290ish. Good warranty on these too and a decent make with a good repucation.

ANother good brand worth looking at is Blue Mountain. Not doing a 19" yet but if the feedback we;ve had on the 15 and 17 inch is anything to go by they'll be wortyh looi8ng at. The 15 is 129 and the 17 about the 160 mark.

Had several customers or one and then another 30-50 units upon getting the first one. One of our big accounts order 34 the same day as getting the first rating it better than the normal Samsung and Sony's they bought.

I'm putting together a multimedia PC (Shuttle case), for use as a spare TV and PVR in addition to the usual PC stuff and was all set to get an LCD from Iiyama, when I saw this Sony all-in-one in John Lewis...

http://vaio.sony-europe.com/ShowProd...roduct=VGC-V2S.

The screen quality for watching DVDs was fantastic.

The question is, are widescreen monitors as good all round as a 'standard' shape one, e.g. for Word documents, web browsing, etc.?

Can anyone recommend a good widescreen monitor??? Price is important and we're preferably talking £400 maximum.

That Hyundai one does actually look very good when you check the specs., Thats a top rate response time 6-8ms are about the best out there.

I am using a Viewsonic VG910s which I am very pleased with. Definition is excellent and colour is as good as I have seen TFT wise. It was a pressie though so no idea how much it was although I have seen them on the net recently for around £340.

I have 2 Philips 190B 19" TFT's, £450 each PCWorld with a 3 year manufacturer warranty. Stunning picture quality and look, pricy but totally solid gear.

Have a look on Aria. They have some very good deals on TFTs at the moment. Their own brand 17" TFT (which has very good reviews and is a very decent spec) comes in at less than £150 inc VAT.
