Question Monitor or videocard about to expire?

Symptons:- during the last few days the display on my monitor (CRT) will suddenly start "scrolling" rapidly/continually for a few seconds (rather like the vertical hold going on a TV). After a few more seconds the monitor then switches itself off. The only way to get the display back is to reboot.

The problems seems to be happening more and more frequently, so I presume something is on its last legs.

Before I go out and buy a new monitor, is it more likely that the videocard is the culprit?

I'd say monitor - it's much more likely to die as well.
