as above running xp and it wont let me move or delete folders.
i can copy them or delete the files inside but any more tells me that another user or program is using the files
any one got any ideas?

I've had this before. Check for hidden files, else close all windows and try again. If that doesn't work, reset the computer and try once more.

Xp doesn't like you deleting folders which currently have the Thumbnail view option. Switching them to Details, List etc. usually works.

youve just answered your own question! dont move them it may **** up the other programs unless you can trace what programs are using what

still cant delete em whatever the settings are
used to be able to but its a while since i did a tidy up so cant put a date on it
cant see what other program should be using them
its all folders but not the contents of the folder
ive just got loads of empty folders now
damn thing

try running msconfig (must be an admin) and disabling all the programs running, restart the machine then try, if it still says another program is still running then thats a bit odd. I assume your an admin on the machine? is it xp pro?


you shouldnt move system folders though only folders that youve made

I get this alot in XP especially moving files from one dir to another, n then trying to del the original folder. It use to happen in win2k as well but not as frequently. If u logout n then back in again, from ctrl-alt-del it usually then allows u to del the folders.
