Default Wireless ????

Need some advice please, just aquired a Linksys wireless router, and would like to share my broadband connection between my deskyop and my laptop. I know I will need a wireless pc card for the laptop but my problem is that I currently use a usb adsl modem to connect to the net. My desktop has a ethernet pci card to connect to the router,(unsure which ethernet cable to use?), but what sort of modem will I need? Will a pci adsl modem do the job??????????? Hope this makes some sort of sense.. Thanks.

has the wireless router got a built-in adsl modem? if not then you will need to get a adsl modem with a ethernet connection (like a 1-port adsl modem).

IMHO, you are better off with a all-in-one box, 4-port router, adsl modem, SPI firewall and wireless. i had roughly the same stuff you had but ditched it for a all-in-one. have a look at www.qtds.com or www.ebuyer.co.uk. they are only about £45 onwards. it make life much easier!

I have never done this but I would have thought you could just keep your USB modem plugged into your PC and buy a wireless network card for your laptop? ie, keep your desktop connected to the modem, connect the linksys wireless router to your PC and then connect your laptop to the desktop via wireless? Then just use internet connection sharing.

I think this should work or am I missing something?

yeah but then he would have to leave his pc on whenever he wanted to use the laptop, not ideal but would work.

It needs to be a combined adsl modem and wireless router, which that one isnt. Then u can connect any time you like without having to use the main pc as an internet sharer.
