Question Nice bunch of Viruses AVG can't remove. Erm..Help?

Well what a lovely threesome we have here:

Trojan Horse Downloader Agent.2.S = C:\Files\Windupdates\WINKA.EXE
Trojan Horse Downloader Agent.2.U = C:\Files\Winupdates\WINUPDT.EXE
Trojan Horse Downloader Agent.2.V = C:\Files\Winupdates\COMM.DLL

AVG detects them, but can't remove them to the virus vault. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Many thanks.

Go to Symantec's site, look the name of the virus up and follow the manual removal instructions.

Prolly down to the admin restrictions in XP? it happens on mine very occasionally, AVG will detect them but can't access the folders. Each time it happens I can never remember how to enable access (even though I'm down as an admin on the PC)

Something else just popped up. Trojan horse Clicker.AJ
AVG is still flashing the same 3 viruses. Can't find them on Symantec's site. Anyone know how to enable AVG access? If not a good av package I can purchase?
Thanks.

I use Sophos AV and find if Trojans can't be removed it's because the files are held open by the operating system. Either try to stop them running from Processes or.....

Yep agree with Red I use avg and had problems before, and its not a AVG limitation but you will find something running as a background task keeping these files open. Best thing to do is delete them after booting into DOS.

Try Avast as a decent alternative to AVG.

Nothing would have pleased me more if it had. I would have presumed an update would have been included in the free download. Didn't see anything requesting you update after the initial download.

The viruses on you pc are still running in the background, therefore the antivirus can't delete the files, in the same way that you can't delete a word file you have got open. The only succesfull way of getting rid is to stop them first.

I use Panda antivirus - this will mark the file for deletion then delete it on your next reboot go to www.pandasoftware.com for a free 1 update trial (it can be foud cheeper in the shops than online - I can sell you the titanium OEM version for £10)

If this still won't work PM me and i'll get you a step by step instruction.(will take a while to type)

ANOTHER ONE TO TRY WOULD BE ADAWARE - I KNOW IT'S PRIMERILY A SPYWARE + ADWARE REMOVER BUT IT ALSO DOES KILL SOME VIRUSES. IT DEFINATLEY GETS RID OF THE BLASTER, SASSER AND NETSKY VIRUSES AND CAN STOP PROCESSES WITHOUT FAIL

As jack has said, mcafee kills processes which is quite nice, as it just removes viruses properly..

However the main thing is, why didnt you have a virusscanner such as VirusScan Enterprise installed in the first place, then you wouldnt have had this problem!

Thanks for pointing out 'the main thing' Dave, those retrospective thoughts are such a help. BTW if you had cared to read the post properly (why didn't you Dave then you wouldn't have made your post?) you would have seen I have AVG. But hey, thanks anyway?
