And what happens, as it loads you get a typical NT style "you really think you're gonna access this file system matey?" style BSOD containing a humourless message about how I should install updated motherboard drivers (cos obviously this has nothing whatsoever to do with the MS update I've just installed ) and then a reboot before going through the witless BSOD yet again ........
Hi ho, happy dayz

All started OK but would pause for 5-10 secs every minute or so. Uninstall RC2 and all is fine again, re-install... back in a fooked state. Uninstall and all is good again
Pop up blocker is good but firewall a bit too "Fisher Price" for me...

Apparently they're releasing a "home" version of the service pack which is only an 80Mb download and will be available via windows update. I wonder what they're leaving out
Installed the 278Mb version on one of my work pcs today, and have had no problems so far....

Also, the version available via Windows Update will vary in size depending on how up-to-date you are with critical updates etc. The 280 MB version just includes everything instead.

Looks like the Home Edition is available now ???

Home users get key Windows update
The XP update conflicts with some games
From today home users will be able to get hold of Microsoft's long-awaited update for Windows XP.
The version of the SP2 security update for the Home Edition of XP has become available via its auto-update service.
However, users of XP Professional Edition must wait until 25 August to get a version intended for them.
Users who prefer to get a CD of the key update may have to wait a few weeks because the software was only recently released to disc manufacturers.
Update conflict
With the SP2 update, Microsoft is hoping to make it much more difficult for virus writers and malicious hackers to compromise the operating system.
