I need to Format my Hard drive but have lost my bootup disk & forgoten how to make one up does anyone the files required and the lines for Config.sys and Atoexec.bat files Win 98SE.

From what I can remember, and my fish type memory

I Formated/s a 3.5 disc and edited Autoexec.bat and config.sys , edit, Fdisk, CDrom(driver) and some others??. Lastdrive!!

What do I type in Auto & Config.

Once booted up in A: i (Partitioned) Fdisk C: Formated with system, then copied the A: files over to C: edited Config.sys to read Driver=C:/mscdex.exe . etc

Rebooted system from C: and was able to reconise D: and ran Windows 98 setup form D:

To make a boot disk go into control panel, add remove programs and third tab along is start up disk

This gives you the option to start the machine with or without cd drivers

Yopu can do all you formating from there.

Tony - I've got Hiren's Boot CD for you that will do it all - lots of apps on there. Use it all the time.

Want me to drop it in?

Dan

Many Thanks,

Mike, I couldn't start up Windows as HD in machine was creamed i did check diagnostic tools in BIOS

Tried then tried to fix 1st drive by fdisk and formating but failed on formating The second HD (not in PC but a draw )was already formated with just Pictures on. Loaded window all drivers etc etc last job to load AOL broadband the system crashed and could only start up in safe mode used MSDOS to delete AOL etc still no good. so thought reformat and be OK no it wouldn't format due to errors on Disc and long file name fault.
I couldn't even repartition it even treid FAT16 small disc !!

So went to PCWORLD bought new drive and started up CD support on WIN 98se disc and didn't need a disc.

Dan make me a copy i have it sometime next week, call me
