No .exe found??

No .exe found??
Odd problem last night
Needed to reinstall counterstrike/steam as it was playing up
Upon restart it still didnt work, but then i noticed that every single program from the start menu could not start as it started looking for the .exe.
Looked inside program files folder, every program folder had the exe or app icon missing (i have full access and invisible files to show)
So thought bugger it,will just use system Restore to bring me back a day, but system restore wont work as it is itself and .exe so it wont work.
Double bugger..now i ma faced with either trying to reinstall the whole of XP Pro again or ...you guys might have some bright idea's.
System XP Pro all fully up to date
All Virus defs up to date
Adaware running
Firewall on
System pretty clean and no problems until last night

yup tried verything that those articles suggested and still no joy
Had to do a full reinstall last night
Fecking PC's and Windows !!! That is why i use a MAC...
Plus the bloddy software now tells me to reactivate as the key has be used too mnay times (well of course you bloddy software, i have had to reinstall )amnd now have to phone up Microsoft to speak to some monkey.God it just gets better and better.
