Default Windows Explorer problem

OK, it's one of those braindead days today (hey, it's friday! what do you expect!)

Just installed W2K Server, I open windows explorer. I want the view where in the left hand column I have the list of items, with the nice little [+] next to folders so I can expand the contents, and then when I select the items, the contents of the folder appear in the right hand column of the window.

I'm not getting this! I've made sure that under 'view' explorer bar, I have it set to 'folders' but it shows a grey left hand column.

I've checked on my other servers and they ususally have the word 'folders' in the heading of this column, but the new server does not.

So, what have I set, or not set?

Thanks, but as said, I've already tried that, but to no avail. I see where the 'folders' column should be, but it's totally grey, and nothing is listed in it, right clicking on it does nothing at all.

On my other servers, yeah, if I select "View|Explorer Bar|Folders" then it will not show the 'folders' thing, and if I select it again, they come back. It's just this sever that is being a git

have you tried moving the horizontal separator bar to see if anything happens?

what happens when you try to do the same with another folder?.. maybe "display folders" in another folder, my docs for example then set folders"like current folder" and try windows explorer again.

try customising the toolbar to include the "folders" button. I have a similar quirk with mine, if I click file/print while i'm in IE **** all happens. If I click the print button in the toolbar it works - very odd.

thanks for that. I'll bookmark it.

Thing is, I had taken the direct action of reinstalling W2K. Bit drastic, but there was nothing on the machine, plus it meant I could repartition it, which I should have done in the first place.

Once again, thanks.

Ickle update...

After the reinstall of W2K, all was fine, until I started downloading windows updates. The final thing I added was an updated nvidia driver, listed on the MS site, after this, wham! the 'folders' pane was hosed. used the little linky supplied by mj (thanks!) volia, problem fixed.

One very happy muppet.
