Default Photoshop assistance

Hey guys, i have photoshop 7 on Windows, just wondering if anyone can help me learn a basic task.

When designing web logos, boxes etc i have made up the image in layers and have rounded corners on the boxes. even though they have no background, when i save them to JPEGS they turn into a bigger square box with white "fill in" round the edges.

i used to know how to do this, but cant remember, can anyone point me in the right direction? basically looking for the file to have a transparent background

there is an example here doh!

cheers

Try a gif or PNG - both have transparency options in the export dialogue

Yup, you need to save as a gif or png with the transparency check box ticked in the Save for Web dialogue.

JPEGs default to having a filled background (white or otherwise) and don't have any transparency option. For the web, clipping paths don't work either
