Default New Printers Q:

Looking at the latest printers on the web, the majority seem to be photo printers (handy for the toner companies, 5-6-7 toners), whenever Ive bought an Inkjet printer before they have come with the toners in the box, something tells me that isnt the case anymore

Anyone know??

Thanks Nick

It seems to me that it is now cheaper to buy a new printer rather than replace the Toners !!

Anyone want to recommend a decent middle of the road printer, or manufacturer, it doesnt have to scan or copy.

Cheers

I recommend Canon these days. The i865 is on the PC Pro A list. www.canon.co.uk

If you are going to do a lot (20+ pages of full colour over 2 days) a bubble / ink printer is a false economy.

The printers are so cheap because:
- the toner cartrages are only 1/4 full
- the cost of the printer is subsidised by the post sales revenue from ink.

If your volume of printing get's close to above, seriously consider a colour laser printer. The cost per print is a fraction of a bubble, so in the long run they work out cheaper to use.

I can second that. I've got one and it is superb. Good photo printing, quiet, quick, and can even print directly onto cd-r / dvd-r etc

Thanks for the ideas

The reason I am buying a new printer is I have got a new PC (running XP Pro)and I have installed the drivers for the printer and the PC couldn't communicate with the printer, I changed the paralel cable, one of the toners, downloaded the lattest HP drivers but still it wouldn't communicate, duff printer me thinks and I cant be bothered to spend anymore time pulling my hair out its been installed uninstalled 3 times now so its a new printer, I had a look at the Canon, should do the job nicely, I dont fany another HP they seem to be programmed to fail after 18 months.

Cheers

Iain / Nick

Thanks for the advice on the i865, I bought one on Friday and have to say I am well chuffed with it, great build quality, speedy, quiet, and it actually looks good!, after two shabby HP's I am converted to Canon

Yep, Canon all the way here too. The i series printers are excellent. The i9100 I have does 13 x 19 colour prints at a quality (with careful setup) that you wouldn't believe came out of an inkjet.

On Canon's at least, they come with full ink cartridges, not 1/4 full as some have said.

Cheers

Ink Cartridges were actually 1/3 full LOL, but to be expected with a new printer, I was glad to just get them and only £7.99 for replacements, at least its not £24.99 like the old HP's

1/3 full ? I thought it was only HP that did that. Anyway, my i9100 came with full tanks, and I should hope so too for the cost of the printer initially.

Cheers
