Can I wipe my pc and re install everything?
My pc is secondhand, was my brothers. He didnt really have a clue either. He has loads of games and other stuff loaded onto the hard drive which means there is little memory left for working with.
The latest problem is the computer actually freezes while using the internet. It will lock for anything from two seconds to about a minute or even more. And waiting for a web page to download takes for ever. (locked while typing just now).
Is there any way that I can strip the hard drive tower and remove a memory or something along those lines and totaly re install the windows 98 that i have on disc and also add only the packages i use like paint shop and media player.
My internet is through Tesco.net if that means anything too.
Totaly stuck as I need my pc but dont want to shell out on a new one .
Please help
Jamie

Jamie,
The answer to your question is yes!, try and make sure you save any importnat documents etc to a cd prior to reinstalling the Operating System.
Whilst your starting from scratch why not upgrade to a more stable newer version of windpws?, either 2000 or Xp, check your hardware meets the recommended requirements first
Try and obtain any drivers devices already installed if possible and write down all your connection details for your email and internet connection.
Allow about an hour for the fresh install to get your up and running and install whatever programs you want from there.

Jamie,
Quite easy mate, if your installing XP or 2000 just simply pop the installation CD in the drive, make sure the BIOS is configured to boot from the CD before the Hard Disk, got through the setupo options, when prompted delete any volumes already present and format the drive as NTFS -just a type of file system, follow the instructions from there, dead easy
You wont need to open the pc up for this

Word of advice....hard disk space and memory are two completely different things
You are wiping the hard drive....not the memory.
And in answer to your title question.....probably Provided you have everything you need to reinstall everything then you might be OK.
Personally, I would never install an OS over an existing one. You will be far better off wiping everything first and going for a clean install, but that will mean you will need to backup loads of stuff and have the installation disks for everything you want to put back on.
Good luck

wiping the hdd will wipe all the games and data, etc! so make sure you back them up.
since it is an old PC, will need to know what's the hardware spec. goto control panel/system to have a look what you got, r during boot up, have a look at the BIOS.
