error when loading game (Far Cry)
hello all
Just installed Far Cry on my PC. When I click on the desktop icon after a while I get the following error:
"Cannot locate the CD-ROM
CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD emulation software and re-start the game"
What does this mean and how do I fix it? Ive tried re-booting the PC but makes no difference. The Far Cry DVD is in the DVD drive when I click the icon.
Any help gratefully appreciated

Have you got something like nero or Easy CD Creator which have virtual cd things? I run both daemon tools and alcohol 120% both emulators and it works fine for me.
BTW It is a brilliant game

if you have anything like daemon tools running turn them off, also i heard this problem coming from having the demos of the game on your system, delete them otherwise head to ubisofts website they have a forum about this, any probs let me know

Thanks chaps,
Yeah I have Nero and a load of other similar programs. Trouble is Im really thick with PC's .
How do I know if I have a "virtual drive"? Under "My Computer" it just shows the three drives installed ie my CD player/writer, my DVD reader, and my DVD reader/writer.
I used to have Alcohol120% and it DID have a virtual drive but it played up when my friend tried to update it so he removed Alcohol completely.
Thanks for your help, its frustrating not being able to try the game!!
P.S. I never had the trial version. Ive tried scouring the Far Cry/Ubisoft forums but no joy

not really sure what else to suggest, i know the old demo thing generated problems - my advice would be to search through your pc at all the programs installed, check out any that you think could be interfering. pretty sure nero will cause problems with it. gonna take a look at ubisofts website be back

Thanks for your help
Ive uninstalled Clone CD and it now works . Its a bit of a **** take making you disable a legitimate piece of software but there you go.
I cant get the multiplayer to work though. Ive patched it to 1.1 and tried turning off the firewall briefly but it doesnt work. It simply doesnt list ANY servers. I entered my cd key and created an account which it seems happy with but it just doesnt show ANY servers .
Thanks again for your help, most appreciated
