Default Bloody Medion PC

Hi peeps,

Hope someone can help me here. Im trying to fix the PC as it was behaving very wierdly and had loads of crap (spyware, viruses etc etc) and it wouldnt even update properly via the web after cleaning all the crud off, kept failing with delayed writes so I just assumed the disc was fubar'd.

After installing a nice new 80 GB drive, I formatted it ok to ntfs etc etc and when I try to install I get errors "Setup cannot copy the files: Whatever file"

Now I assumed dodgy disc, but I have now tried 3 differerent cds and a copy of 2000 in 3 different, known working drives.

So I am now assuming memory is knackered. However on opening it, it turns out that it has two memory sticks, so I took one out and the thing doesn't boot. Whats the score there ? I thought the days of paired simms etc was long gone. Does anyone have a dos memory tester that will work on the POS system (P4 1.7 256 MB)

Cheers

Stu

Memtest86 is the best around imo. You can grab a bootable iso or floppy off the site.

I guess you've checked jumpers etc on the drives, and that master is at the end of the chain?

yeah, just saw those. The real kicker is that the faulty module is 64 MB so he would have to buy 2. Anyone have a spare stick of 64MB Rambus?
