Best Antivirus software for a small network?
Finally the subscription on Norton is about to expire so I can rid of the resource hogging software for something that is a little more resourceful
Some of the network software (unipart KIS for one) has a real problem with norton when acessing the server from a work station. For some reason for which I, nor tech support have managed to fix (apart from disabling norton).
So, what I need is some recommened AV that doesn't interfere that much with programs acessing the network, and yet closely monitors the e-mail. And also doesn't take two centuries to scan the hard disc
I'm on a price too (as usual )

Try AVG from Grisoft. Very low resource overhead, extremely reliable and catches everything thrown at it.
So far anyway (touching wood).
Oh, and it's dead cheap, too

we are a small company using around 25 pcs on a network. We were until a few weeks ago using mcafee but have just changed to www.sophos.com this is mainly due to the after sales service. It was very hard to get information from mcafee via phone. Now its a lot easier.

It's only for 5 workstations, they were supllied with Norton AV when new,
And reason why I'm on a price is that I've been ordered to renew the subscriptions or find something better for the around same price.
As long as it does the job and doesn't screw everything up like norton, I'll be happy

We - McAfee - do have more of an online bias, but then so do Viruses and to be honest most people. Sophos for instance have only just started providing online updates and not so long ago refused to repair! As with other features competitors do catch up in the end. Heuristic and Generic detection, Management tools, Detection of Malware rather than just viruses, In memory repair, bla bla bla, I could go on forever.
McAfee Antivirus and the engine especially is always first with innovation, the rest rely on imitation.
It's difficult to differentiate right now, what with the glut dull coding being placed into spammed threats. But, wait and see what happens next, detection and repair of the new wave of threats will require a bit more work and some labs and dev teams won't be able to cope, of course you'll be able to call them and speak to someone about your problem, but I've rather have a product that works when needed.
And of course "More Subaru drivers work for McAfee than any other Antivirus software company".

Nah, spent my lunchtime tapping it in. By the way I don't get commision. I am however quite proud of the work that goes on here in Aylesbury on new viruses and engine development, I'm Aylesbury born and bred.

The DAT and Engine are still there, you could still use them. Updates to the user interface are not available, we have to pay the developers. The updates are smaller now as well
