Is a CD-RW Disc Different to a CD-R Disc?
The reason I ask is this, I run XP on my PC at home and recently bought a load of CD-RW to archive a load of my stuff and to make a few audio cds. Historically, out of say a box of 10 cd-r's i'll bugger up 4 of them because summat crashes or whatever. The net result being wasted discs, time and money!
I thought that if i get cd-rw's then this wouldn't happen as I could just re record over the error.
Now here's the rub, when i try to write to the new cd-rw, the burning process starts, gets about 40% of the way through and then suddenly fails. My system telling me that there is a hardware problem. Ahh! Booo!
So i used to be able to burn, now I can't. The only thing that I think has changed is the cd-r has become a cd-rw. Are they totally different as far as a computer is concerned of have i probably buggered summat else up?

CDR's are burn once, CDRW's are burn and reburn.
I'd suggest unistalling ALL of your CD burning software, then re-installing one at a time, if you have more than one.
I use Nero, seems to be very good for me.

I've burnt cd-r stuff onto cd-rw discs before loads of time with no problems. Are you sure the discs you bought are 100% compatible with your writer?

If you were burning "coasters" 4 times out of 10 on CD-R's, there's definitely something wrong with your system.
CD-R and CD-RW are also completely different in terms of the technology used within the disc.

Hanslow!
I did! I even changed operating systems on the recommendation of a computer type bloke. Computers suck and I'll hear no more about it!

LOL If you are free one day, you can always pick me up and drag us over and I'll have a look at it for you, or you could drop it off here and leave it with me for the day and I'll do the same
