Copying a file in ME
I have been attempting to copy a file into installdir\system\ , but I can't find this directory to complete this task .
Do I have to go into Regedit?

Um . . . forgive me if I misunderstand but . . .
installdir will be where Windows is installed eg. C:\Windows.
Making the directory you need: C:\Windows\System
