ADSL microfilters
#1
I have an ADSL connection to my PC via a D-Link DSL200 USB modem.
This is connected into a microfilter purchased from PcWorld. The ADSL connection works fine.
From the phone connection on the microfilter I have connected a BT telephone/fax machine and routed from this a analogue modem in my laptop.
The phone seems to work fine whether I'm using the internet or not.
The problem I have is that the laptop modem keep's dropping it's connction after a few minutes. If a disconnect the microfilter and plug the telephone/fax machine straight into the wall socket the laptop modem works fine without dropping the connection.
Can the problem be a poor quality microfilter (and if so can anyone recommend a decent one) or can it be related to Ren numbers?

Are you only using one microfilter?
This could be your problem.
You need a microfilter on both your phone and modem lines to clean up the signal, you also need to ensure that both microfilters are not on the same part of the line, ie after the junction box and before the phone/modem.
This should sort your problem out

ADSLNation do the best quality microfilters that I've found. I've not lost CLI on my phone since I swapped it in. The one supplied with my SpeedTouch router would stop giving CLI after a day or two of use.

I have one microfilter connected to the junction box.
There are 2 connectors on the output of the microfilter:
one connects to the ADSL modem.
the other is where I have my telephone/fax machine and laptop modem connected to.
In this configuration everything seems to work fine apart from the laptop modem keeps dropping out.

Yup thats your problem, deffo!
You need one microfilter for every peice of equipment that you attach to your juntion box, adding 2 peices of equipment to one microfilter will cause you the problem where it drops out due to the sensitivity of the modem.
