monitor resolution
#1
Ive just changed my monitor form 15" to 17".
I used to have 800x600@85Hz on the old one, and get the same no probs on the new one.
Problem is when setting 1024x780 on the new monitor everything looks 'fuzzy' and out of focus sort of.
Any ideas? This res setting should be no probs. I could use it on the smaller monitor but found everything too small to read, but focusing etc was fine.
Thanks

A 17" monitor should easily do 1024 res. What's the sound card you're using?
Perhaps your drivers are using a really low refresh rate, and your confusing blur with flicker? Just a though.
Go to display properties/advance, and set the card to display all resolutions, rather than recommended, and play around. You may also have to play around with the monitor setup once you've chosen a resolution.

Sounds like it may be monitor refresh rate. From memory:
Go to Display Properties | Settings | Advanced and Select the Monitor tab. On there bump the refresh rate up at 75Hz or above.
Cheers

thanks guys. I had already set the refresh rate to 85Hz. I'm getting the latest drivers for my video card as its slightly out of date.
Its a geforce 4 mmx. Monitor is a proview 770. I cant see why there is a problem.

A 17" screen should easily be capable of 1024x768 - I use 1152x864 on mine. If the picure is still blurry with a > 75Hz refresh rate, then the focus and/or astigmatism adjustments are probably out. If it's new, send it back, otherwise it needs servicing. Not a job you should try yourself, and there are some quite lethal voltages present.
