Hello

Having finally got fedup with "only" 700mb on a CD, I am looking to buy a DVD-Writer.

I'm amazed that they have come down in price so much.

Are the ones for £90 or so okay? PC world has Phillips and a Ricoh one for £89.99. Any comments?

Thanks,

Steve.

Yep...... I have a sony with the 8mb buffer.... does the biz...

Apparently the Pioneer 106 is supposed to be the 'new kid on the block' and winning many popularity competitions...

Both are circa 90 - 100 £'s..... WELL worth the investment!!!!

I bought a CD burner not a few years ago and that cost me 150 notes!!! and that was cutting edge at the time!!!

Buy the plextor from dabs.

I've got one and its bloody fantastic.

The problem with the circa £90 drives is the they either burn a good DVD-R OR a good DVD+r not both, except my plextor Bit pricier though @ £140+VAT

Then again if you're not bothered about DVD+R or DVD-R just get a cheapy. Good review on tomshardware

I've got the Plextor drive too - it's fantastic, silent, and a quality bit of kit in my opinion.

Steve,
SVP are doing the Pioneer 106 retail product for just short of a 100 quid and £83.48 for the oem version.
I bought my oem 106 from them not so long ago and mine cost me £130 (Which at the time was a good price)
Not had one single coaster with mine but make sure you use quality disks (Ritek G04 dye,Traxdata is what I use)

Good luck

Nick

Bought my media from here the other day:

http://www.digitalpromo.co.uk/erol.html Its cheap!!!!

As per all the above comments, get a DV106-R Pioneer and you can't go wrong. Make sure you apply the hacked firmware once installed to take advantage multi-region playback.

Incidentally, I also have a DV106-R and I find it imperative that the best media is used or you'll be binning disks left right and centre due to compatibility issues. Stick to Ritek, it works best... Princo media is mega dodgy!

I've got a Pioneer 106 on Order as well, I looked about and read loads of reviews and it got all good reviews, and was a really good price.

I had an email from SVP today (I'm on their mailing list) and they've received the retail versions of the 106 in today.Worth paying a bit more and getting the retail kit perhaps? (Most other places seem to charge £99 for the oem product from what I've seen)

Good luck

Without doubt the 106 is the daddy of the burners (just as good as the Plextor for +r and -r).
The reason places are running out of these is that the 107 is officially released in January and 106's have been discontinued.
Prices hit a rock-bottom last week at about £71+VAT and are now set to climb.

I let this go so far, but this is definitely a commercial post now

Scoobynet has to protect its interests and we do not allow the board to be used commercially in this manner.
