I'm thinking about upgrading my 14 month old laptop which is now in terms of modern PC performance, slightly outdated.
Its a Packard Bell with 1.2 GHz processor, 256 MB RAM and 20GB HD.
I contacted the store that sold me it and they quoted the following prices for upgrades...
2.8 GHz I.P.4 processor - £200 fitted.
additional 256 MB RAM - £40 fitted.
Are these prices quite good?
Another computer shop actually told me that the processor cannot be changed due to it being soldered onto the motherboard.... is this true?
Very confused.....

Intel 2.8 P4 from an on-line supplier is about £160, memory about £35, so £45 for doing the job sounds pretty good.
As for the last comment I'd be surprised if they can swap the processor without changing the m'board. (so maybe they are trying to catch you that way), just a thought.
Ian..

Thanks Audiman...
Contacted the store again and it seems thier "expert" on the telephone wasn't as well informed as she should be.
The processor cannot be changed without major re-construction inside, so I'm booked in for a RAM upgrade to 512MB.
Hopefully this will improve my machines performance sufficiently.
