I'm after a Firewire IEEE1394 PCMCIA card for my laptop in order that I can capture footage from a digital camcorder ready for editing in Windows Movie Maker. Having looked around in the shops, prices range from 70-90 quid (d'oh - can't get pound sign to work!!!), but a quick search on ebay reveals similar products (2, or 3 port firewire adaptors) for as little as 15!

Now, to me this seems like a bargain, but a little voice in my head is telling me that if something looks too good to be true, it probably is. Would I be a total plank to go ahead and buy one of these?

Any advice greatfully received...

K.

The ebay ones look okay and the sellers have lots of good feedback selling the same and simliar products. May be worth bearing in mind that they don't look like big-brand cards, so support and future driver availability could be limited, but for the money, looks like a good deal to me.

If you're still unsure, I'd grab one from somewhere like Komplett. May cost a bit more, but you'll be buying a branded product along with the support perks that includes.

Thanks for the reply...

As long as it works then I'm not too worried about "future proofing". It's only ever likely to be used with the camcorder I currently have anyway...
