cd burner problem

right a friend of mine is having trouble with his cd burner. he seems to already have tried most things ive sugested to no avail.

basically he was burning a disc and at the finalisation part it froze and he reset the pc and no the drive will not read any cd's, tho it does detect the drive. first error he got was that the drive was already in use (when it wasnt)

I had exactly the same problem, and yes, my burner was foobared. They are only £25 these day, go buy another

I had this with a Philips CD Burner (Belgian crap!)

only worked again once the machine was switched off and switched on again. Restart didn't cut it.

this has been fully turned off and later turned on to no avail

try uninstalling then reinstalling (drivers I mean)

its already been done...also removed cables and plugged back in etc. he says it detects it and isplays it in windows but it wont read any discs

Can you update the firmware ? Sounds shafted anyway, so can't hurt

aye i sugested that to him earlier but he aint a clue what it means lol so i told him to go browse the manufactuers and search google for info
