Sorry mate - but its a worm.
There is a utility from mcafee to get rid of it, but you'll also need a patch from microsoft to stop you getting it again. Unfortunatly I don't know the web addresses to get them from, and the bloke at work who got me them is off on holiday til monday.
I have both on floppies with I can email, obviously to a different pc - which will sort it. both files are about 1mb so you'll need 2 floppies.
mail me if you want them.

WTF, a worm???
Why do people always assume that things that go wrong are down to things like this, and blame them stem on hackers.
Its difficult to tell with the limited amount of info you have given, but I think problem your seeing is actually down to buggy software from microsoft again....yyyeeeyyy.
I think its down to a regression error in the Mshtml.dll
Either scrap it and get a real OS, or download the patch from here

I think what you are refering to is the fact that blaster exploits a buffer in the RPC. Due to the fact that it 'effects' this API, and the fact that the service is set to 'restart the machine' in case of any problems, that was what you were seeing.

I am an IT bod (computer security), and have written my fair share or worms (bots) in my day.
Worms wouldn't close IE, there is no benefit from it. It would be a waste of code.
The link I gave describes the problem he is experiencing, even to go as far as giving the same response before killing the app.
*edited to add, i'm not saying it deffinetly is that error, the original post didn't have enough info to make a diagnostic. That was just an example of what it could be. There are many reason IE can close, its not deffinetly down to the Mshtml library

so is there a difference between a worm and a virus?
What I was experiencing (at the same time all the pc's at work doing the same thing) was when going into Internet Explorer, you'd get a dialogue box saying that Windows was going to shut down in 60 seconds with a little countdown timer.
Then it did when it got to 0.

yes, what you have described there is the blaster worm, however the original description was different. It was related to IE, and that was then killed.
Yes, there are huge differences between worms and viri. A worm generally hides itself (like a trojan), does it buisness and then attempts to infect others. Ways of doing this are things like, emailing itself to your contact list, sending out probes (scanning random subnets) for the same vunerability it used to exploit the same weakness on other machines (like code red and nimbda did)
