May I recommend PlusNet instead?

I've just switched to them from Pipex because :
a) They were cheaper, and
b) They include PHP/CGI enabled webspace, with MySQL database support (perfect for running a Football related forum from )
c) They provide a static IP address if required (for free)
d) They provide fax-to-email for free
e) Their customer satisfaction rating is very high (see here)
f) You can get a free ADSL modem (& 2 line splitters) & free activation & free anti-virus (although the monthly fee is then about £1.50 more than Pipex for the first 12 months)
g) They provide dial-up access to your account as a back up
h) You can get permanent fee reductions for recomendations In fact, if you refer enough new business to them, they will actually PAY YOU for your connection, EVERY MONTH!

Looking to connect up to this in a couple of weeks when I move to the new house. Who wants to recommend me and get a months rental free (if they still do it)?

Ive been looking at the site as I need Adsl soon too, and was considering Pipex. One thing I cant seem to find out on plusnet - is there a download limit for home broadband, as there isnt with Pipex?

Wonder if someone could give me the phone no to enquire about pipex broadband ?? also believe they do 2 packages ?? is the £20 a month one fast enough for most general internet use ?? dont really plan to download much !! paying £15 just now for ntl dial up 24/7 so seems good for just an extra £5 per month !! its just really the quicker access and not having the main house phone line tied up for hours on end that will mean more than anything else to me !!!

also is there a minimum spec / memory off pc I would require ?? or does the new modem take care off this for you ?? also take it w98 is still okay with broadband ??

cheers for any help folks, will be appreciatted,

john...

Sub97 - after being on Pipex for ~8 months, there is no download limit that I can discern.

Jon - The Pipex contact details are here. I find the Xtreme deal (£20+VAT per month) fine for my purposes and it's happy either with my old Vaio PII 366 lappie or Athlon XP2700 desktop. You should have no bother with Windows 98 as the ADSL adaptor they supply is USB - although check and see if your machine has USB ports (it should do).

I'm not going to recommend Pipex over anyone else as the deals going about have probably changed, but their ADSL has done for me exactly what it said on the tin.

I agree with the above about Pipex, it has worked fine for me too. No problem downloading stuff and no line drops.

Thumbs up

I went Pipex because no one else could supply me broadband at the distance which I live from the tel exchange.

It works well and at £20 its a steal.

Well I work for MCI whose Backbone PIPEX run over (alter.net on your traceroutes) so I know they have a good infrastructure. Plus I have hardly heard any complaints about them.

Gregh was first to reply so as soon as I get the BT line connected and know the number I will pass my details on.

Thanks,
Simon.
