Scanner has just packed in, so need to buy a new one - dont use them much, but they come in handy every now and then.

Anyone got any recommendations for a new one - would like a flatbed, slimline effort. Will be used mostly to scan images, pictures etc.

Budget: up to £100

Take a look at the Canon scanners, notably the CanoScan LiDE 30. Nice scanner.

Yup, I have the LiDE 30 Nice and slim and does the job very nicely. Only £54.04 from ebuyer.

I bought the Hewlett Packard PSC 1210 printer/scanner for £99 and would recommend it. Simple bit of kit, fairly small, prints & scans well.

Cheers all, going for the Canon Lide 50 then. Now, what about DVD writers.

Dont know much about them, but could do with one. Is the Pioneer 106 any good, and presumably you can play DVD films on them as well, not just write?

DW - Yep, they play DVD-Rom as well as write DVD±R and CD-R/RW.

The Pioneer A06 (106) is soon to be replaced by the A07 which will write DVD±R at 8x, DVD±RW at 4x & CD-R/W at 24x. Highly recommended though if you can't wait for the new one.

Not sure when its due out, only saw the announcement last week, so may be a month or so off yet. Certified 8x media is pretty rare still at the moment, although a lot of current good quality +R 4x media will write at 8x They can be had for around £1 a disc.

I have a 4x drive which writes a full DVD in around 15 minutes and am very happy with it. The 8x drives will soon be replaced by dual layer DVD-R and then maybe Blu-Ray discs, so IMO I'd just get a cheap 4x writer as the technology is moving pretty fast and will be out of date very quickly.

Yeah, will go for the 106 I think. Its mostly for reading client files, and the occasional DVD burn.

Next question, Dabs do the Pioneer 106 and A06. A06 is the retail version, and is an extra £20. Worth going for? I usually buy retail packs, and you get all the leads, software etc. Presume this will be the same idea?

i recently got an nec nd-1300a which seems a pretty good drive, (not made any coasters yet) it was £103 including postage only prolem ive found is that dvd x copy doesnt work with it for some reason (made my pc not detect ANY cd/dvd drives)

I bought the OEM version. I expect you'd get the audio cable, maybe an IDE cable, Nero and warranty. So yep, probably worth the extra
