Hi,

Got some iMovie & mpeg files on my Powerbook G4, and have transferred them over the network to my PC (where the DVD writer is).

However, if I write the files on the PC to DVD, when I insert the DVD back into the Powerbook, the files are not recognised as iMovie or mpeg files....

What am I doing wrong?

Does the PowerBook actually read and mount the disc successfully? I presume you've preserved the file extensions?

Sort of......if I mount the PC drive on the Mac, the files are all ok - only when I write them to a DVD on the PC using Nero that it seems to lose some crucial info...

The Mac mounts the resultant DVD ok, and can see all the files - just that they have obviously lost their file extensions etc...

Guess I've semi-answered this myself - it is probably Nero that is not preserving the file format/extensions when writing to the DVD.....

So - any clues?

Are you running OS 9? OS X should be able to handle the files just from the file extensions. Can you set Nero to burn a UDF format DVD rather than an ISO9660 one?

Does a File->Open or File->Import not allow you to use the files in either iMovie or QuickTime?

Class-A - will try the UDF format rather than ISO one - maybe that is it....

Yes, am running OS X.

No, iMovie cannot import them direct from the DVD.

Will let you know, but thanks for pointers.

Ach - tried UDF and did not work either.

Am I correct in maybe thinking that somehow Nero is not burning the resource fork part of the files??? As I said, if I mount the PC drive on the Mac over the network, the files all look ok (ie, the APPs they associate with are recognised).

Maybe I can just zip the files on the Mac, and then burn the zip, but not exactly the fastest solution.....
