Been playing CS on U2K for some time via Gamespy. Tried to connect today to same servers and I keep getting the message "Lan servers are restricted to local clients (class c).

I downloaded the multiplayer demo of MOH Breakthrough?? Could this be the cause.

Anyone got any ideas, did a search on various HL/CS sites, found people had asked similar questions but no solutions.

TIA

Mike

you get that when you try to connect to a version 1.6 server using version 1.5

Have you downloaded steam? Have you updated your CS to version 1.6?

Are you aware that all versions OTHER than 1.6 will be effectively "switched off" in a couple of weeks so you won't be able to use them online?

I wouldnt bother. 1.6 is horrible. Im hoping people keep the 1.5 servers going.

Simon, its not the servers. Valve have said the Won servers are going to be switched off. So cs1.5 will only be playable on lan

Thanks

Downloaded steam update last night, feel sorry for anyone on dial up as 380Mb file took me 3.5 hours on broadband.

If I remember correctly there are some guys on here running a server. Anyone playing on it? Do you need a pasword....?

It took me about 3 hours to download steam with the CS cashe. Installed it and it worked first time. Great connection speeds and loads of servers to choose from. Don't know why everyone is slating steam I've had no troubles at all with it. I know it's not quite the same as CS 1.5, and the shield does suck a bit, but things evolve and people will have to get used to 1.6 and get over thier elitist 1.5 is the best attitude.

If you're installing steam from scratch I would recommend going here http://gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk/bl.../client/win32/ and getting the installer with the cache file for the games you play already in it, saves trying to get it through the rather overloaded steam content servers.
